Dear Curly Girl,
If you straighten your hair with a straightening flat-iron, your hair will fry. Also, keep in mind that your hair doesn't have to be washed every single day. That will actually dry your hair out. So, if you flat iron it once or twice a week, instead of everyday, then you can keep your hair as healthy as possible.
There is also a Japanese straightening treatment you can use, which chemically straightens it and it lasts for six months! It might be worth the investment, if you consider that it would only have to be done twice a year, for all year-round results.

Whats the japanese treatment called Kim? My hair is dry becuz i wash it often and i guess thats not good, thanks for the tips Kim.
anonymous says:
The Japanese treatment she is referring to costs around $600 to $800 dollars depending on where you live. I has this done one time and to me it is so not worth it. It takes about 6 to 8 hours to go through the entire process so clear your schedule for an entire day. Yes it did straighten my hair, however this straightening system is advertised that you can just let your hair air dry and it will dry stick straight. Wrong! I still has to spend the same amount of time blow drying my hair to get it straight. There was no way I could just let it air dry. So from my experience I would not get it done. Plus it also damages your hair and my stylist suggested to not continue to use this straightening system. I have found some products that work rather well. Graham Webb stick straight products. I use the shampoo, conditioner, and gel. Also, Matrix Smooth and Shine, and ISO Smoothing gel. I have tried many products over the years and these seem to work the best, but I still have to blow dry my hair straight.
luz_mireya says:
hey kim! thanks for the advice.
i have really long curly hair. what i do when i want it straighten is getting rollers or curlers in my hair and sitting in a dryer then blow dry it out and it silky straight. product wise i dont use high end product i simply use garnier fructis and they work lovely :)

dear kim,
im only 16 years old and from my personal experience i think im very much in love with my boyfriend whos 18. we have been dating for one year and i love him more than anything in this world. i am an armenian girl and like all weird armo families my parents are retarted. they dont approve of my relationship with my black boyfriend. its so hard for me because till this day i am struggling with my family because they have told me that if i choose him over them then i will not be considered their daughter anymore. i mean i dont really care but im only 16 what can i do?!
we went through a phase in our relationship were he cheated on me and i dumped him but 2 months later forgave him and thank god our relationship has been wonderful ever since but hes currently locked up and i dont know what to do. he gets out in late april but im killing myself with these rediculous thoughs in my head. im really scared because i dont know if hes going to love me like he used to when he gets out or if hes not going to want me anymore and im seriously terrified cuz i cant loose him i offered him soo much (if u get what i mean) and i dont know what i would do if he called it quits cuz i sacrafised practically my whole life for him. till this day im still arguing with my parents but i know im not going to give up, this situation got so intense that before he got locked up we were planning on running away and having a baby!!!
so im really stuck and as an intelligant beautiful woman i know u have gone through hell too and i was hoping.. wishing that u could help me out and give me some advice on what i should do with him?!
if u ever read this please write back and show support to the ppl who support u!
thank u sincerly

WOW!!! This is the first time I've come across your website, but I have to say that I find it amazingly unbelievable - you are easily the most wonderfully down-to-earth and considerate superstar yet. :)
Oh and by the way, you mentioned the japanese chemical that straightens out hair for 6 months? I think you can get the same service at parlors - ask for Hair Rebonding. (I'm from the philippines and people here get it all the time. It's really popular and effective. Sometimes it lasts as long as a year if you can take care of it, I think!)
eileen says:
kim please let us know where we can find your diet in people magazine
thanks!!!

young_&_confused, thats exactly what you are. Its a proven fact that your brain is the size of a llama; your interpersonal skills are to the level of a retard.
Dump your boyfriend or whatever and quit waisting everyone's time.
Leave your family and you'll lose everything you'll ever have forever.

How can u give thaqt poor girl that terrible advice kim i feel bad for her please write back to young and confused what foundation do u recommend for a beautful touch , they usually leave me looking dry n ashy
NaNa says:
Dear Kim,
I Looooove your new hair cut style, specialy your bang. It looks soooo sexy and cute at the same time. I would like to know of it's possible for you to show me how to get the same hair cut as you.
Thank you!=)
LatinaFan says:
curls can be a pain in the butt! I have naturally straight hair, but I always wanted to have curls. So I got a perm (to curl it) and it has demaged my hair so much! Now that I have curly hair I feel like my hair is sooo dry and I can't really do much with it. i have tried to streighten it the other day and it looked so dry and horrible! I wish I had my straight hair again! haha...well i just have to wait now until my hair grows out! lol
Kim says:
You could also try chemical straighteners that are used by african americans these products do the same as the japanese product, but for much less. Although you would need to go to a salon that specializes in african american hair. You can buy the treatments yourself but I wouldn't recommend it.

WELL ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT IF YOU ARE WTIH A PARTNER, BE HONEST WITH EACH OTHER AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER.THIS WILL CONFORT YOU, KNOWING THAT SOMEONE IS OUT THERE FOR YOU. IF YOU HAVEN'T TOLD YOUR PARTNER, MAYBE YOU SHOULD. IF YOU ARE SINGLE, THERE ARE WEB SITES OUT THERE THAT CAN MATCH YOU UP WITH A PARTNER WITH THE SAME SITUATIONS. LIFE IS NOT OVER GIRL, JUST BE GLAD YOU DIDN'T CATCH AIDS AND YOU ARE STILL ALIVE.
Andrea says:
yea I heard of that Japanese treatment that leaves your hair straight even if you wash it.
I have naturally red, curly hair and I don't mind it only when I put lots of cream in it. I just leave it curly because I hate the hassle of straightening it myself.
It doesn't cost a lot to straighten it though.
Latinafan says:
young & cofused: I think your parents might be right about this guy. I am sure they don't only have negative thoughts about him just because he is black, I am sure that they know (or feel) he is bad influence on you. And to me it seems like he might not be good for you. I waited for a guy to get of of jail for 2 years and when he got out he became a whore and got several other women pregnant. When a man goes to jail, that should be a red flag to any girl. So my advice is: be friends with him, but dont settle for less. You might feel attached to him because maybe he was your first, but a man who doesn't have responsibilities and ends up in jails is someone you want to say away from. Don't let his game, get you. And please do not get pregnant by him, that would be the dumbest mistake!!!!!! You are not married, and you are still in high school! School and work should be your priorities as well as your famuly. Remember that mother's are always right, they have been there, done that. They are experienced and when they have a bad feeling 90% of the time they are right!!!!!! Be friends with this guy, but don't settle for him. Show him that you value yourself and deserve more. If anything he should be the one wondering "is she going to wait for me?" you shouldn't be thinkin about that!!!!! You are too good to be with a man who is in and out of jail.
grace says:
hi, i'm from singapore. i couldn't be bothered to read the comments above, but i think Kim was referring to rebonding. several people i know have done it before, and it is permanent. it makes hair stick straight (either a pro or a con depending on what you want), and somehow after the treatment their hair gets softer. it's cheap, the most expensive i've heard of so far is around $150, which is around USD$100.
Meko says:
I agree with Grace. I have thick biracial hair and the most the treatment cost me was $150. No where near $500. That's just ridiculous. Or maybe it was so cheap for me because I got it done in a Korean salon.
Anyway, a relaxer or Japanese Perm both do the same things. Relaxers for me personally lasted longer and I liked the way it looked and felt. But I think it mainly depends on the beautician. I have my Japanese stylist Mikiko to have her way with this thick mane.

Tiffany says:
Hello! I have only watched your show a few times and I noticed all the clothes, shoes and jewelry that you and your sisters wear. I have also seen the clothing store that you all have. I wanted to know, what do you do with your clothes that you do not wear anymore. My daughter is 17 years old and really loves the clothes you all wear. Unfortunately, my husband lost his job and I am working 6 to 7 days a week just to keep a float. I am working extra just to get her a prom dress. I cannot afford to buy her new clothes and just thought it would be nice to receive some of the clothes that you all don't wear anymore. She would love it. That's OK if you don't respond. I was just hoping you might consider it. Thanks so much!!
LD says:
Not to be rude Tiffany but if you need clothes for your daughter why don't you go to social services or to the salvation army. Kim and her sisters do wear nice clothes but if you need basic necessities for your daughter you could buy some clothes for walmart or Dots. I'm sure you may want her to be stylish but at the same time check out your local thrift store or go to one in an upscale neighborhood.

I have a little cousin that absolutely LOVES the Cheetah girls and she flipped out when I told her she was dating your brother (she's a fan of yours as well). I also wanted to say how I thought it was cool that you and your sisters are always there for each other and your brother. :] My family is close knit as well and it's nice to see that even a celebrity family has good family values.... wishing you guys all the best!

the best japenese straightner is Bio-Ionic...it actually makes your hair straight and heathier. i have had 3 different ones and this is the best one. it lasted 10 months, but depends on how fast or slow your hair grows. go to http://www.bioionic.com/ and they have a salon finder
jodi says:
To respond to the girl who wants to straighten her hair... I have very long naturally curly long hair that is CRAZY with curls so I definitely hear ya! I do straighten a few times a month and Kim is right when she says it's best not to wash every day. I find every other is sufficient and also once you straighten you are good for about 3 days. There is an amazing product called "Wet 2 Straight" it's a straightening iron that you can use on your towel dried hair. It is super smooth with 30 different heat settings so you dont wreck your hair. It's made by Conair and I got mine for like $30.00 at Walmart... They key is to make sure you put something in to protect it so your hair doesn't fry and keep moving the iron you will have to do it in sections and move quickly. I recommend Sauve Sleek which is the Imitation for Matrix, they make a anti frizz serum and also heat protectant spray these products are amazing! Finish with a little shine booster and voila straight hair!
CinCity says:
Heyyyyy, Kim, needless to say your gorgeous and we have things in common like our skin tone. For the name of god, what foundation do you use. Brand, color etc..... you already know. I want the foundation and also the blush you use. Your reply is very much appreciated.
kisses, I love your show and your sisters....

Hi Kim,
I have a couple questions for you; I really hope you can answer them it will help me allot. First you and your family are my role models I love how you guys always have each others back I wish I was in your family. I hope one day I can have a family close like yours. I am a 21yr old single mother of two beautiful girls but after I had them I cant seem to feel good about my body I have lost my self esteem so bad I don’t feel like attractive. I would like to know how I can tone my body when I go to the gym. Can tell me how to apply makeup. I try but can’t seem to get it to come out right. One more thing I want to be a good looking mother I know that sounds weird but I want people to see me and say I look good even after having two girls. I had and right now I dress in sweats and not even cute ones. Can you help me dress please? Kim I pretty much need a whole make over. Can you be my guide to getting my Self esteem up? By the way I do feel weird writing this but I do need that support form someone and hopefully you can be.
Thanks

Dear Kim,
I have a question. I have your same body type, im 5'3" with enough boobs and booty if u know what I mean. You actually make me proud of my curves, I always felt like my chest and behind were too big for my small body. People actually call me the white kim kardashian, lol. im just wondering what you do for exercise and eating. Do you concentrate more on food or excercise? Im 22 and my body isnt going to stay perfect forever, so you being a few years older, what do you suggest to stay fit?
Hannah says:
Hey Kim,
I think your Fab. I love your hair. I have long, black, wavy hair as well but I want it styled like yours, but I don't have time or $ to get it professionally done all the time. How do you go about styling your hair? (I like the style when it is parted in the middle with slight waves at the ends)
anon says:
HEY Kim :) I'm norm not a fan of reality tv, but I love your family's show. My question is this: We have similiar body shapes (small waist, a little bigger hips and backside) but I could stand to lose some weight. Are you on a specific diet and work out plan?

Hello Miss Kim,
I wrote on this blog last week about me traveling to LA during the summer. I will be near Malibu and wondered about good places to eat and go clubbing? I do not see my message or a reply from you? Is there a reason why? I am pretty big fan or your show and would love to meet you in person someday. My dream would be to photograph you for my portfolio or book someday. You have my e-mail. If you or your webmaster write me back to see if it is possible?
thank you,

vee says:
to the girl who asked about the face waxing.. don't wax it.. get it done with string.. its a tad bit more painful than waxing but a lot more effective and the hair doesn't come out as bad. you can get it stringed at any middle-eastern salons. i don't know if any other places do it. you can always ask.
Missy says:
Hey Kim (from Sydney, Australia!!)

hey i had really curly and thick hair.. i didn't like it at all until i found a permanent straightener called the matrix. The cost differs according to the length of your hair, but this is one thing I never regret doing. It is definitely worth it. Your hair becomes so straight and silky and it lasts really long. Talk to your hairdresser about it.

Hello everyone! What she is talking about here is called CHI. I have done it to my hair several times. And yes I do think it's worth it. It cost me around $400.00 and yes it took about 6hrs. but I really could just wash and go and my hair would dry perfectly straight. BUT it depends who you go to I just got it done again by another person and it didn't come out so good. I still have to use the flat iron, but it doesn't take as long as it use to. I use to spend about 2hrs and now I spend around 30mins. so even though this time wasn't great it was still worth it!!
